Economic Self-sufficiency

Economic self-sufficiency means a family’s total income is at a level that allows it to support itself without receipt of assistance from safety net programs such as CalWORKS, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, or General Assistance. At ALL IN Alameda County, we want to see all families not only be economically self-sufficient but also positioned to build assets. Below are two initiatives ALL IN has implemented in partnership with several other organizations. We have been encouraged by the ALL IN Steering Committee to continue to explore workforce development strategies to increase employment for individuals with lived experience in the early care and education, mental health, healthcare, and local government sectors.

Youth Engagement and Financial Development

From 2020-2022, ALL IN partnered with organizations like Alameda County Public Health Department, Dig Deep Farms, Alameda County Office of Education, REACH Ashland Youth Center, and Health & Human Resource Education Center (HHREC) and the Youth Finance Institute of America (YFIA) to implement paid internship opportunities for young people to learn more about financial literacy and career pathways. More information about these programs are available on the Historic ALL IN Program webpage.  Over the next couple of years, ALL IN will explore opportunities to relaunch this work to support access to economic opportunity and career pathways for young people in Alameda County.

 

Upward Mobility Project

The Alameda County Upward Mobility Project is an interagency initiative intended to boost mobility from poverty and ensure prosperity is shared by all residents. Alameda County has a host of efforts, programs, initiatives, and plans focused on aspects of upward economic mobility. Through this project, the County will use a racial equity lens to address inequities in economic and social outcomes. This work focuses on the priority areas of essential needs, financial health, employment and community wealth, and cross-cutting systems change. ALL IN partnered with the East Bay Economic Development Alliance and Oakland Thrives to develop a proposed plan that prioritized strategic actions around financial health, essential needs, employment and community wealth, and cross-cutting systems change.
